Greenfield Conservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
September 9, 2004
Those present: Alan Stevens, Sheldon Pennoyer, Karen Day, Neal Brown, Ray Cilley, Roger Lessard
1. Easement on Stevenson land. Alan Stevens showed us a map of his subdivision. The easement he is proposing runs along the back of all the lots. He’ll offer 50’ to the house on the corner. He’d like to treat the wetlands as a separate lot. He would like to protect all 8 lots through easement. He’ll do minor cutting, only pine up to 12 or 14.”
Stevens does his own cutting. He proposes a 60’x60’ parking area after using it for a logging landing.
Sheldon commended Alan for his plan. He hopes that the Planning Board will allow wetlands as one lot. We liked the plan and Karen stated that we would speak to the Planning Board in favor of the plan. Stevens wants to be involved in the wording of the easement. He’ll either give the lot to the town or the Monadnock Conservancy. Sheldon has a trail system on his land that could be tied to this one. The best proposal is that the property should be given to Sheldon.
2. CMRC NRI: We are co-hosting the CMRC NRI Presentation on Saturday the 11th. Neal will help set up chairs at 5pm.
3. Colburn property problems: Mr Colburn did work before all the permits were issued. He has cleaned up the slash in the stream.
4. Checking subdivision plans: We discussed the Planning Board’s hope that we could have a liason from the GCC attend their meetings. Karen told them that we don’t have enough members to do that but that we might be able to have a member attend meetings having to do with wetlands issues. It was decided that we would send someone on a rotating basis.
5. Conservation property signs: We need to mark where the signs should be erected. Discussion ensued about ensuring that conservation land is truly protected, and proceeds from logging remain with the property. Ray will palce stakes at Holden lot and lot by the Greenvale Cemetery.
6. Tree at Oak Park: We discussed the condition of the pin oaks at Oak Park. Neal suggested replacing them with 4 smaller ones. Ray said that he would contact Steve Siegars to see if he would replace one or both of them.
7. UNH Project: We talked about what type of project we could have the UNH students do for us in the spring. Karen suggested having them elaborate on some aspect of the NRI. She will look it over and come up with a suggestion.
8. Other business: Neal went to a presentation on unfragmented wildlife habitat and secured a map and a CD. Also Neal has been talking to people at Sunset Lake about forming a lake association. He says that most want to do it but he hasn’t gotten any further with it.
Respectfully submitted
Roger Lessard
